UNIVERSAL MONSTERS STAMPS

Issued on 30 September 1997 by the USPS, this set of commemorative stamps was released at Universal City on the first day of issue to launch National Stamp Collecting month. The monster theme was mainly intended to attract young people to stamp collecting. The images were painted by Thomas Blackshear, who himself was a monster fan. He said that the job was a "treat" as “monsters have always been a passion with me.  I used to collect Famous Monsters of Filmland when I was a kid… Also, I had almost every monster model kit that was ever put out.”

Printed for Stamp Venturers by J.W. Fergusson & Sons of Richmond Virginia, there were 145,000,000 million produced and they are not hard to find these days at reasonable prices. However, one thing I didn't come across were sheets with this presentation folder. Click on the images to view the details.

BEFORE THEY WERE SCREAM QUEENS: SALLY TODD

When she appeared in a non-nude feature article in PLAYBOY the year before, the editors were so impressed with actress Sally Todd that they invited her to be a Playboy Playmate in their February 1957 issue. She wasn't exactly burning down the house with her film roles, but she certainly had the kind of looks that made men's heads turn. Her provocative shot in a form-fitting dress seen on the publicity materials for THE UNEARTHLY just a few months later was obviously intended to amplify her 36-20-36 figure. In the Republic Pictures film, Miss Todd plays a saucy resident of John Carradine's "psychiatric hospital" who ends up on the wrong end of a glandular experiment.

Getting carried away with Tor Johnson.

Trying to put the slip on Tor.

After playing in a couple more low-budget fills, she landed a role in another B-monster movie, Richard E. Cunha's FRANKENSTEIN'S DAUGHTER (1958) along with John Ashley and Sandra Knight.

Sally Todd's film career never took off, so she eventually retired from Hollywood and went into business for herself. She passed away at the age of 88 on 21 November 2022 in France.

Here she is as Playboy's Playmate for February 1957:

Here's a photo-feature of Miss Todd in the men's adventure magazine, GUY (September 1959):
